Sailor Moon V * The Dark Adventures Of The Sailor Scouts I'm going to try to keep this as simple as I can, so bear with me while I explain exactly how I've cheerfully mangled the Sailor Moon plot lines. Sailor Moon V is a parallel story line to the original Sailor Moon story line. The split occurs between the American-Dubbed Episodes #6 (Time Bomb) and #7 (An Uncharmed Life). There, the first Dark Adventure of mine takes place (entitled "For The Love Of Mercury"). After that, the story lines run roughly parallel up until Episode #40 (Day Of Destiny). The major change with that episode is that no one loses their memories and Serena keeps the Crescent Moon Wand. At that point, the Sailor Moon plot line goes one way while the Sailor Moon V plot takes a sharp turn to deep left field. I've already received several complaints about minor discontinuities in the stories. Keep in mind that this is a parallel plot and that small details may be out-of-order by either accident or design (or ignorance of the real answers). Also, keep in mind that my only source for information about the Sailor Moon "world" is from the American episodes from DIC. The known and obvious discontinuities are: The incorrect spelling of Lita (I always heard it as Leda. I liked it so I kept it. Makes more sense, too, if you know alot about Greek mythology). Darian's jeep (I knew he had a bike, but I wasn't sure about the car he drove. Having a jeep sounded cool so I let him have one). Ami and Greg never really hit it off (namely because Ami has Tolaris). Mina and her family live in a studio apartment (sounded cool when I first wrote it). Chad's attitude towards Rei (Chad doesn't worship her as much as he does in the series and won't take a lot of her attitude). Zoicite's gender (keep in mind my source for this....) The incorrect spelling of Jaedite (wrote the 1st Episode before I found out how to correctly spell it, but since when have I truly given a wet rat f*** about the original stuff?). Lita's past relationships (I only know she once had a boyfriend named Freddy who dumped her. Everything else you read about her past was made up by me). The Shinto religion uses shrines instead of temples (tell that to the people who wrote the script for the US version). I know *nothing* of how Sailor V came to be, nor do I really know how any of the "Outer Scouts" came into play, so anything you see in here in regards to them is made up by me. (I know Sailor V spent some time in England, however, and that she has an English grandmother, but that's it.) I am (painfully) aware of the fact that some "early" story details (as written in SMV*DA #1 thru #5 or so) don't quite mesh well with what was written "later" (#6 and beyond). Call it a lack of planning for a future that wasn't anticipated. If there is any confusion as to a given detail's nature, either accept the newer version as being the one I intended or email me about it so I can try to explain what I was thinking at the time. Another potentially fatal mistake is the number of liberties I've taken with this story. Fan-fiction means I get carte blanche with the story lines, but I do hope I didn't go overboard. FAIR WARNING: The first episode is rather clean and nice, but (IMHBEO) the plot quality kinda drops a bit in the second story ("By The New Moon's Light"). Also, starting with the 2nd Episode, there are certain scenes that some readers may not like (ie: The various Scouts get some with their boyfriends....), so if you don't go for that kind of stuff, you are advised not to read it. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. [Note: IMHBEO means In My Humble But Expert Opinion. Just so you know.] The list of (known) liberties are as follows: Episode #1 (For The Love Of Mercury) Tolaris is physically modeled after D from "Vampire Hunter D" and in part from Nephlyte in the original series. Tolaris's powers are modeled after X-Men's Storm. Maze is physically modeled after Rei Ganci from "Vampire Hunter D". The name/group "Dragoons" was taken from the game "Final Fantasy II" Dyvach's name was adapted from "Taran Wanderer" by Lloyd Alexander. Ensign Tempest is physically modeled after X-Men's Storm. The oft-used phrase "Ami, we've got to get you out more" was taken from a piece of fan-fiction entitled "Digital Moon" by Mike Koos. (I talked to Mike about that one and he kinda liked it. Thanks, Mike!) Episode #2 (By The New Moon's Light) Mina's ancestral lineage was based partly on Bram Stoker's Dracula. Daigan's name was taken from the game "Final Fantasy II" Daigan is partially physically modeled after Count Strahd from AD&D's RAVENLOFT campaign setting. Shar-Tei's reflex power came from Robotech. Episode #3 (Of Love And Crystal) The Napoleon reference was adapted from a routine by The Greaseman. ("Napoleon, get your hand out of your pants and put it in your shirt. History will give you more respect that way....") Episode #4 (Shadows Of The Past) I make no apologies for the Smurf joke. The MechBlaster 3000 is modeled after the heavy assault weapon used by Drake and Vasquez in the movie "Aliens". The name Raijen stems from a mistranslation of Raiden. The Highlander references stemmed from a converstation I had with one of my fan-friends. Thanks for the input, Skywise! Episode #5 (Time Enough For Love) Reish'id's name was taken from that super-old arch-enemy of Batman from the Animated Series, Ra's Al-ghul (don't even bother trying to figure out how I diddled with the spelling). Reish'id's voice is modeled after Shere Khan's from "Tale Spin". The village of Asleen is based on a city from the movie "Willow". "The Dark" and related elements were modeled after the the demon world depicted in "Vampire Princess Miyu". Episode #6 (The Return From Darkness) The names Alex, Susan, and Michelle in reference to the Outer Scouts were picked up from a discussion in rec.arts.anime, I belive (I could be wrong). I don't remember who said what, but my thanks to whomever was involved. The character of Mephisto was taken from the original anime movie "Demon City Shinjuku". The name Myst was taken from the interactive CD-ROM game made by the computer company Cyan. Episode #7 (Something to Remember) The name Aria in reference to Lady Mars was inspired by the character Aria Goodhalo from Lucasart's "Afterlife" I've kept the name Hotaru as the name for Sailor Saturn... but only in her past incarnation. If there is a stocky blonde named Amanda Parkins out there in the real world, I do apologize. Sheer coincidence. The concept of Sailor V's "network of friends" was inspired by the movie remake of the 1930's radio program "The Shadow". The characters of Megan and Lisa are based in part (but only in part) on the characters of Morrigan and Lilith from "Darkstalkers". The name V'Sari was inspired by the real-life name of a friend of mine (if I can use the term without drawing a dark look), Menolly of the Glass Dragon MUD (which, sadly, closed down in 2004). I'm only going to say this once.... Renee. RIH-nay, *not* REE-nee. Use the cheap version in my presence and you will never hear the end of it (assuming I ever talk to you again), and I'm not kidding. The name Zenaida came from a long-forgotten schoolmate, Zenaida Serrano. (Zenaida actually tripped over this README file somehow and wrote to me. It was quite good to hear from her, but for some reason she either never got my replies or never wrote back. Zen, if you're out there and read this again, by all means please write back, I'd love to hear from you.) Episode #8 (The Darkness Within) The tactical Red Wing aircraft are all loosely (and I mean loosely) modeled after various forms of "Veritech" fighters from the anime series "Robotech". The name Eldred was shamelessly borrowed from another user on the (sadly, now-defunct) Glass Dragon MUD. The airborne carrier "Storm" (V'ral in the denizen language) has been loosely modeled after the Sky Pirate's "Iron Vulture" from Disney's "Tale Spin" cartoon series. Episode #9 (The Princess of the Moon) The chocobo references are drawn from the "Final Fantasy" series of games from SquareSoft. (Yes, Virginia, the world is Square....) Serera's denizen wings are modeled after the Archangel Tyrael from the "Diablo II" game by Blizzard. Please note that I'm using the Act III cinematic depiction of his "wings of light" and not the (in my opinion, heinously jacked) depiction of his wings as seen in the Act V conclusion cinematic from the "Lord of Destruction" expansion. Serena's "angel voice" resonance was inspired by the Nephalem from the "Lord of Destruction" expansion pack to the "Diablo II" game by Blizzard. If the music group "Evanescence" has a problem with Mina singing "My Immortal" in the story, they can come talk to me about it and I'll see what I can do. :P The twisted demiplane that Myst has access is based on the spectral plane of existence from the Eidos game "Soul Reaver" from the "Legacy of Kain" series. (Tip: Never piss off a vampire....) My information for Rei's rare wine came from Wikipedia's website, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiu Episode #10 (Kingdom of the Moon) The buffalo burger routine was inspired by a similar scene in the movie "Demolition Man". ("Ratburger? This is a ratburger?") I have done some research into Sailor Saturn's transformation and attacks, and the short summary is nobody ever officially animated a transformation sequence for her. So everything you see depicted in here is made up by me (including her Circle of Life attack). The poem Susan mentions is "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Lee Frost. Episode #11 (The Calm Before the Storm) Major Corona's re-entry suit was modeled after Kurt Hectic's coil suit in the video game "M.D.K." The taffer reference comes from the "Thief" series of computer games by Eidos and Looking Glass studios. The "wait a minuet" line was borrowed from Disney's "Tale Spin". ("Of course I have no decency, I am a pirate...." - Don Carnage) Part of the description of vampires has been drawn from Raziel's explanation of them from the game "Soul Reaver" by Eidos. (As an aside, part of that text was written in October 2002 and has been sitting in a buffer until I could properly pencil it in.) Episode #12 (On Wings of Chaos) The names Kay, Morgan, and Minerva in reference to Sailor Scouts have been taken with permission from a piece of fanfiction entitled "Moonlit Destiny" by Bill Barbas (cybear@netcom.com). The movie remake of the 1930's radio program "The Shadow" and the events depicted therein have been incorporated, in part, into the Sailor Moon V world of things that exist "in reality" as it relates to "real-world" events in the Sailor Moon V universe. Episode #13 (The Essence of Chaos) (Still) On the drawing board: Episode #14 (When Worlds Collide) Episode #15 (The Chosen One) Yes, I really have things planned out that far. I won't say much about what's on the chalkboard, but let's just say that I plan to introduce Sailor Chaos and Sailor Earth. Oh, yeah, don't let me forget about Major Azure or the Chinese (well, Tibetian) ninja either, I have plenty of plans for them. Eventually. Did I get around to introducing Corona yet? (Yes? Nevermind, then.) On a serious note, if anyone out there feels like taking a potshot at writing their own Sailor Moon V episodes, just drop me a line at the below e-mail address with a brief summary of your story ideas and I'll probably let you run with it. A few ground rules however: 1) 2) No major character goes kaput. If you create an original character of your own, feel free to bury that char at your leisure. Just don't have any of mine start pushing up daisies. 3) Go easy on the blood. Granted Ami likes blood, but keep in mind her feelings on draining people. If they volunteer, feel free to drink up but not to any damaging excess. 4) Just make sure you let your readers know that while your episode is based on characters and events that take place in my series, it is not part of my series. Call it a parody of a parody, if you will, but don't call it Sailor Moon V. (I'm not a lawyer, but a simple, quick-and-dirty disclaimer somewhere will work for me.) 5) Rule 5? Simple: Take all the plotlines you can find about Sailor Moon, dump them in a blender, puree them until you get all of the lumps out, pour into a small air-tight can, screw the lid on, shake well, and serve with confidence that you've just written a damn good piece of fanfiction. (Whether that is true or not is up to the critics, but having an attitude sure helps your ego.) 6) I'm kinda upset I actually have to add this one. If you're out there and like my work, by all means post it in a public place for others to read and enjoy. Just make sure you credit *me* as writing the original SMV story instead of yourself. Already had to smack someone around on FanFiction.net for trying to post a chunk of SMV and pass it off as their work (and a big thank-you to those of who you who took the time to contact me about this incident). For some strange reason, I found myself possessed during one rough weekend so I sat down on and typed up a lemon episode for SMV. After it was written and I sat back to wonder just WTF I had done, I started toying with the idea of making it a separate series (originally Sailor Moon L). I then had the idea of making it a sub-series of SMV. Since the original series was subtitled "The Dark Adventures of the Sailor Scouts," I eventually decided on naming this lemon series "Tales of the Night". Episode #1 has been released some time ago for public consumption, so if you can't find it, keep looking. As I now have two SMV series out, please use a caveat in the subject line when you're sending e-mail to me or any of the web page maintainers so we can get a clear idea of which series you're talking about (ie: SMV*DA for Dark Adventures and SMV*TN for Tales of the Night). DISCLAIMER It has been made aware to me that there is a group called the Psi-Corp on the television show "Babylon 5". I have never seen the show and any similiarities between Sailor Moon V and Babylon 5 are purely and entirely coincidential. It has also been made aware to me that another Sailor Moon fanfiction series makes use of the concept of 'extradimensional pockets' for the Sailor Scouts. Again, any similiarities between Sailor Moon V and that series (I don't know the name of it) is purely and entirely conincidential. Someone else pointed out that, with the scene between K'tal and Ael'ien accidentally being mind-linked, it seems that I had "ripped the hell off of" the X-Men comic series (something about how Cyclops and Dark Phoenix had the same issue). While I have used Marvel Comics' "X-Men" as the basis for a few ideas (Tolaris's power, another denizen's looks, and PARTLY as the basis for the denizen Chaos Factor), I have to categorically state that I do not, have not, and probably won't ever follow along with whatever plotlines Marvel (or any comic, for that matter) has in their series, which means I have no idea what they're doing. In short, any similarities about plotlines between SMV and what the X-Men do (other than what I have listed above in the "liberties" section) is purely and entirely coincidental. If I borrow an idea or two from somewhere, I make every effort to say so as credit should be given where credit is due. That should cover it, I hope. If anyone has any suggestions, questions, flames, whatever, you can send it to my e-mail address at: *NEW ADDRESS* ---> sailormoonv@sailormoonv.net For those of you with Yahoo! Instant Messenger, I do make use of it whenever I've got my fat butt parked in front of the computer (the one that's connected to the Internet via high-speed cable, that is). So if you have that service as well (why, yes, I do Yahoo!), feel free to harass me (my ID is smvhq) if you manage to find me. PLEASE NOTE: I no longer make use of MSN's Instant Messenger in direct protest against the Evil Empire of Darth Gates, so don't bother trying to contact me anymore through it. The fact that is is now a vehicle of transmission for a number of Windows exploits and the failure of Microsoft to correct these exploits in a timely manner is also a major reason why I've placed Messenger on firewall lockdown. So please, if you having a burning need to IM me for whatever reason, use Yahoo. Thanks. My Web Page: http://www.sailormoonv.net Holy hell, how long has it been since I updated this thing? Oh, yeah, probably about as long as it took me to finish SMV*DA #12. >.< Eeesh, I know I keep saying you can't rush creative genius, but I think my muse was in a coma or something for awhile. That and having a job where you have to actively keep an eye on things doesn't do much for keeping your focus intact. Don't get me wrong, I like what I'm doing (helpdesk operations in support of a trio of web- based medical applications used by our deployed military personnel) and the pay is certainly nothing to sneeze at. Six years with CSC and still going with no real desire to change jobs or contracts. Having said that, this contract just isn't as conductive to writing as the previous one was. Yeah, I could (in theory) write at home on my off-time instead of trying to squeeze out some idle time at work, but I just can't do it. My state of mind when I'm home is one of "Work is *over*, time to pull up a game and space out until it's bedtime". Creative writing is an outlet for me, but it is also a fair amount of work at times. The only way I've managed to stay relatively stress-free at home is to leave all the heavy thinking at work and simply veg out the rest of the time. Taking a tangent for a moment, if anyone is curious to see what I'm doing in the gaming time, my current focus is "Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates". It's been around for awhile and it's semi-free (you can play the basic game for free, but you need to be a subscriber if you want the higher-end items and puzzles). I play on the Midnight Ocean server (a blue-ocean straight-subscription server, as as opposed to a green-ocean pay-as-you-go server) as Gilzade, "Captain o' the Booch Troop and Flag Queen of the Booch Group". Yes, I'm a guy playing as a middle-aged female merchant captain. It's called role-playing, chill. And no, I don't play that kind of girl. I'm a respected sailor in respectable garb, not a dock-tart in skimpy rags. So if you want to check out the game and would like someone to show you the ropes out on the high-seas in a very friendly and helpful manner, just give me a shout, yarr? http://www.puzzlepirates.com Shameless plug: I've got an ironworking stall on Hephaestus' Forge in the Jet Archipelago that's fully stocked with all kinds of minerals. If you want a decent price for your cannonballs or swords, come drop by and place an order. Mind the rat, he's friendly and won't bite, but do be careful not to step on him as he scurries about underfoot. Going back to Sailor Moon V and all that it entails, once again I'm here to assure you that I'm still moving forward with the series. Maybe not at as quick a pace as I once did, mind you, but I *am* continuing to write. And I fully intend to get the Dark Adventures series all wrapped up by October 2011. At that point SMV*DA will be 15 years old and will be comprised of 15 episodes. Sounds fair, no? And as I've said before, I already have plans for a second follow-up series, Alternate Realities. The first one will be an "Episode #0" story, basically setting up the whole premise of the alternate reality concept as well as idly continuing with the post-Chaos era lives of the Sailor Scouts. If I do it right, the first one will be a very chilling "what if...?" scenario set in the contemporary era, while the second one will be a "say this happens...." scenario set during the end of the Silver Millennium. (The difference is that a what-if is a course of events that could easily happen but didn't, where the say-this-happens requires a near-complete rewriting of historical events to lead up to the situation.) All the SMV*AR stories will consist of two parts: The casual 'meta-plot' continuity of the Sailor Scouts' lives and the episode-specific 'alternate reality' that Susan gets to read about in the Nexus Library. The setting will jump back and forth but not by much, probably in your standard opera sequence: 1) Opening events (meta-plot) 2) Part one (alternate reality) 3) Intermission (meta-plot break) 4) Part two (return to alternate reality) 5) Closing events (back to meta-plot) And just to mess with you, here's a snippet from my internal note file. (You know, the one the die-hard fans would kill to read, hehehe...) #0) The Nexus (Susan creates the Nexus Library in the AR zone) #1) Catastrophe [Classified Plot Summary] #2) Starlight (Sailor Scouts versus the Negaverse.... in deep space) No, I'm not telling you what happens in SMV*AR #1, I'm saving it as a surprise. And if I do it right, it'll be the darkest one yet. But always keep in mind a lesson to be learned from SMV*DA #15: Just because your darkest hour is at hand doesn't mean the clock has actually started ticking. And in SMV*AR #2, Hotaru is a quite healthy Lady Saturn who (by *not* dying at the tender age of thirteen) has changed the future in a rather surprising way. Okay, I'm done teasing you guys, I'm going back to work now. :) Enjoy what comes down the pipe now that the stage is set for the final act (episodes 13-15) of the Dark Adventures saga. Trust me, things are going to be getting real interesting, real soon..... Special thanks to: Computer Sciences Corporation, for keeping me gainfully employed for the past six years in a career field I like, working a job schedule that I love, and enabling me to afford to live my life as comfortably as it has been. (Now if you guys could just do something about this environment situation we have at the job site....) Megan Bloomfield for putting together a chillingly detailed compilation of the cast and crew that has appeared at various points in my series. It was a sort of a kick in the pants that part of me needed and served to help remind me of things, both where I've taken the Sailor Scouts in the past and where I still need to take them in the present and future. My long-time virutal friend Vu, who has helped keep me largely sane in ways she can't even begin to comprehend and in ways I can't really express. I'm not one for sappy words these days, so just take it as an article of faith that I'm glad you're around. Now back to the anvil with you, ya boocher, those cannonballs won't forge themselves you know. :D My flock of birds for being my physical company, aloof as they are. Monteigo the cockatiel is ornery as hell, but he's been with me for probably thirteen years now and I don't know what I'd do without his harassment to remind me that just because I'm a more evolved life-form doesn't mean I'm really all that superior. (Cat owners should know what I'm talking about.) Shout out to my parakeets Widget, Clue, Chip, Sparky, and Burrow, and the deepest of apologies to Skye, who passed away a couple of months after giving me the hatchlings, and to Skittles, who made his choice of freedom in the great outdoors when I had my back turned trying to bring the groceries in. Sorry I couldn't save you two and you will always be remembered. And last, but never least, a HUGE thank-you goes to Takeuchi Naoko for creating Sailor Moon in the first place. Troy "Silver" Stanton 15 February 2008 NASA Goddard's MMO Game http://ipp.gsfc.nasa.gov/mmo/index.html "NASA Learning Technologies Request for Information: Development of a NASA- based massively multiplayer online learning game" Vu: You are the NASA addict. I just saw the story on MMORPG.com. That sounds really cool though. Playing and learning at the same time. Me: Uhh, right, I'm going to get *all* kinds of excited about a NASA MMO that isn't even in the whitepaper stages, let alone in the alpha phase of design. Not. Like I said, wake me up when they actually call for beta testers. You and I both know what "soon" really means in the MMO world. Besides.... you know how NASA does things. They'll schedule the first beta launch for 2009, get it pushed back 'due to technical problems' for another four years, have one beta compile blow up in the server room and take a LAN switch with it ("Uh, Houston, we have a bit-bucket overflow...."), lose staff and resources after a fundie Senator facing re-election pounds the podium while lambasting NASA as being a waste of tax-payer dollars, they'll wimp out after a snide protest from the French and agree to get the European Union signed on as partners, eventually they'll outsource the half-finished code to some online "university" graduates "with PhD's in Microsoft MCSE" over in Carjackistan.... I'm not holding my breath.
